Gritter drivers are the unsung guardians of our winter roads, out before dawn, braving the cold, spreading salt and good vibes in equal measure.
If you know a gritter driver who operates an Econ truck and goes above and beyond to keep their community’s roads clear and safe, we want to hear from you!
Research by Econ revealed that less than one in ten Brits believe gritter drivers to be winter heroes, despite them working long hours in all weathers to keep our country moving.
That’s why after the success of last year’s first ever Grit & Glory Awards, we are back again to shine a light on these hardworking individuals and raise awareness of their essential winter role.
There are four categories in Econ's inaugural Grit & Glory awards, with regional winners being selected from the North and South of England, Wales and Scotland. From these regional winners, one gritter driver will be chosen to be crowned as Econ's 2026/27 Gritter Driver of the Year.
To enter, simply complete the nomination form and submit it before the closing date. The 2026 Awards will open later this year in November. You can register your interest now to be the first to know when entries open.
The overall Gritter Driver of the Year will be selected by our judging panel and will win a £500 voucher of their choice, plus some awesome Econ merchandise.
Before we crown our next champions, here’s a look at our 2025/26 heroes who set the standard for excellence last year.
