HGV Mechanic

We are currently looking to recruit for the role of an HGV Mechanic working out of our workshops in Cardiff.

As a HGV Mechanic you must be capable of completing work to a high standard, whilst adhering to procedures and processes at all times.

You will also be a team player with excellent attention to detail. The right individual must also be confident and professional in their approach as well as someone who is efficient, flexible and motivated.

The successful candidate will be experienced in working with all major makes of chassis (particular previous experience with DAF and/or Mercedes would be an advantage but not essential). Based at our modern, well-equipped depot in Cardiff – the candidate would be an integral part of a small team servicing and maintaining our gritter fleet.

Class 2 HGV licence is essential for this role.

Role would include:

Carry out preventative maintenance and routine scheduled servicing in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.

Trouble shoot and fault find any defects on machines and carry out repairs as necessary.

Carry out inspections and repairs both on and off site.

Working predominantly from our Cardiff Depot, Monday to Thursday 8.00am – 5.00pm and Friday 8.00am to 4.00pm, with an hour lunch break each day. During the winter period you may be out in one of our vans attending vehicles at our customers premises.

Additional hours in winter months may be required, including occasional Saturday mornings, so some flexibility is required. Training and back up will be given.

Overtime is paid at time & a half after 39 hours.  We offer a competitive rate of pay and a bonus scheme along with pension contributions. Should you live more than 15 miles from our depot in Cardiff we also pay a fuel allowance to assist with the cost of travelling to work. All PPE is provided.

Our core work is our hire fleet of 1000+ Salt Spreaders.  May-September, we work hard on a rolling maintenance programme of the chassis & body. They are fully inspected, full brake strips, filters, fluids & repairs.  October-April, Mechanics/Engineers are out in fully equipped service vans carrying out repairs & pmis at customers sites around the South West of Britain. Overtime and early starts may be required.
